Audition Details

Auditions are scheduled Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Students may audition for multiple divisions of the Renaissance Program but will have to choose to participate in only one. Please contact our office at 731.352.6980 or email us at renaissance@bethelu.edu to schedule your audition.
 

It is now easier than ever to audition for the Renaissance Program at Bethel University! Fill out the information below (to the best of your ability) and then submit a video audition using the form below. As soon as we receive it, we will begin putting a scholarship package together for you! You will be notified through your email when our offer has been processed.

Audition Requirements

VOCAL

Choir

  • Prepare two songs that showcase your vocal range and quality.  The songs can be from any genre you choose.


Bluegrass

    Instrumentalists:

  • Prepare TWO standard instrumental pieces from Bluegrass repertoire (fiddle tunes are fine): at least two versions, including a melody and a variation. The student should demonstrate ability in multiple voicings and fingerings. Prepared pieces should be in different keys (capo G-A-B doesn’t count). If auditioning on multiple instruments, please prepare ONE piece on each.


    Vocalists:

  • Prepare TWO standard vocal songs from Bluegrass repertoire (one up-tempo, one of your choice). A mixture of classic and contemporary is encouraged. You will also be required to prepare ONE standard instrumental piece from Bluegrass repertoire on your main instrument (see above).

THEATRE

Students interested in acting/musical theatre:

  • Student must present a theatrical resume outlining their theatre experience.  Please include all theatre experience, music training or experience, and any special skills

  • Student must prepare a song from a musical theatre production.  Please pick a song that best shows your range and vocal style.
    *Please use a track without vocals (iTunes, YouTube, or recorded with accompanist)

  • Student must prepare a monologue of any style that is around 1 minute in length.  Showcase your ability in characterization and line delivery.
     

Students interested in technical theatre, painting, and/or art:

  • Student must provide a resume outlining their theatrical or technical experience, specifically in the areas of set construction, lighting, sound, costumes, props, or stage management

  • Students may present a portfolio of sketches or paintings or provide pictures of their work.

INSTRUMENTAL

Taking into consideration the circumstances at this present time, we would like to offer this approach to our Instrumental auditionees. For those who do not have their instrument at home and aren’t able to submit a video audition, all you have to do is provide us with the name of your High School and your director’s email address. Our directors will then reach out to them for a recommendation, which will allow us to provide a scholarship package for you!


Wind Players

  • 3 major scales of your choice (2 octaves preferable)

  • Play one lyrical piece and one technical piece lasting no more than 1 minute each


Percussion
Battery and Front Ensemble

Battery

  • 8’s exercise

  • Roll, Diddle and/or Flam exercise

Front Ensemble

(See statement above for wind players.)


Color Guard

  • Demonstrate body control in dance (jazz, modern, and lyrical styles are the basis of our movements).

  • Demonstrate equipment control (6-foot flag is the main equipment used by the guard, though some rifle and sabre work may be explored).

  • Students may perform a portion of their current field show routine.


Feature Twirlers

  • Students interested in twirling with the Renaissance Regiment should be prepared to perform a 2-3 minute routine set to music that showcases the your skills.

PRODUCTION

  • Please present a portfolio or proof of experience in the field in which you are interested.

  • Set up interview with Tech Director.
